WATERLOO, Ontario, April 30, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Descartes Systems Group (Nasdaq:DSGX) (TSX:DSG), the global leader in uniting logistics-intensive businesses in commerce, announced that New York-based aircitypost, a leading ecommerce express shipping provider, is leveraging the Descartes Air Automated Manifest System (Air AMS) solution to comply with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) rules that allow for the express customs clearance and release of ecommerce air cargo shipments valued at US$800 or less.

“With the explosion of international ecommerce, aircitypost’s shipment volumes have more than tripled in the last year alone,” said Frank Casano, CEO at aircitypost. “We’ve been using Descartes Air AMS for 10+ years to facilitate customs filings for air cargo. Descartes helped us scale our business and completely automate filing for lower-value ecommerce shipments. Using the Descartes Air AMS solution, we’re helping an average of one to two million ecommerce shipments per month get to their destination faster without increasing costs.”

aircitypost has used Descartes Air AMS for over a decade to speed the flow of import cargo into the U.S. and comply with requirements to electronically file air waybill information with CBP for customs clearance. For ecommerce packages where the total value does not exceed US$800, aircitypost uses the section 321 entry in the Descartes solution to automatically file basic shipment details at the air manifest level with CBP, instead of a more formal customs entry. This allows CBP to expedite customs clearance and permits shipments to be delivered to the end customer on a Deliver Duty Paid (DPP) basis.

“We’re pleased to help our long-standing customer aircitypost grow its business to manage high volumes of ecommerce packages traveling by air across international borders,” said Scott Sangster, VP Global Logistics Network at Descartes. “While the ecommerce boom is an opportunity for the air cargo industry, the sheer volume of shipments poses both customs compliance and customer service challenges. The Descartes Air AMS solution helps shippers, like aircitypost, achieve reliable, seamless and error-free automatic filing of customs declarations to CBP.”
